This page deals with my Great-Grandmother Marietta Sturdevant Loughridge's family. Marietta was the wife of Abram Loughridge. You can read about their family information on the Loughridge Home Page.

The photo listed above is very old with its original golden frame. This photo was taken sometime prior to her death on January 17, 1912. Because we have done a lot of research on the Loughridge-Sturdevant families, one of the Loughridge cousins, Stanley McBee from McAlester, Oklahoma, gave me this photo for safe keeping, I will cherish it always. I have it hanging in my office and I see her looking down on me everyday! Thanks Stanley!
 

Marietta Sturdevant was born on 25 Jan 1852 at Ashtabula County, Ohio. She was the baby of the family. Her father was Joshua Moses Sturdevant and her mother was Abigail Sloote/Sloat. Sloote is a difficult name to trace and I would like to know more information about her and her ancestors. We have seen both Sloote and Sloat used in the family names.
Joshua and Abigail Sturdevant had a total of seven children.

a. Martha J. Sturdevant was born on 9 Apr 1834 in Ohio. She married Rev. Truman A. Lampman on 28 Dec 1855.

b. Miranda Sturdevant was born in 1838 in Ohio. She later married Ralph Moses, probably a kinsman, on 31 Mar 1858 at Morgan, Ashtabula Co., Ohio.

c. Maria Sturdevant was born in 1840 in Ohio. She married Charles G. Anderson on 1 Jul 1866 at Sheffield Twp, OH.

d. Matilda Sturdevant was born in 1844 in Ohio.

e. Albert H. Sturdevant was born on 26 Feb 1846 at Rome, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. He married Monenia Asenthia Munger on 31 Dec 1867 in Ashtabula Co., Ohio. He died on 3 Feb 1929 at Ashtabula, Ohio and was buried at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery. They had a total of three children.


f. Victoria Sturdevant was born on 26 Feb 1846 at Rome, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. She later died on 14 Oct 1917 at Bakersfield, Kern County, California. She married John W. Wallace on 16 Nov 1870 at Marshalltown, Iowa.

g. Marietta Sturdevant was born on 25 Jan 1852 in Ashtabula Co., Ohio. She later married Abram Loughridge in 1872 in Iowa. They had a total of six children. She died on 17 Jan 1912 and was buried at the Northtown Cemetery at McAlester, Pittsburg Co., Oklahoma.

Joshua Moses Sturdevant was born on 1 May 1811 in Vermont. His father was Nathan Sturdevant and his mother was Ruth Moses Sturdevant. We believe that Joshua was given his grandfather's name, Joshua Moses. On 11 Apr 1833, he married Abigail Sloote at Morgan, Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Joshua was a farmer by trade. He died on 21 Feb 1895 and was buried at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
 

Abigail Sloote Sturdevant was born on 24 May 1813 at Scipio, Cayuga, New York. She died a year later after her husband on 29 Aug 1896 and was buried at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
Abigail's parents were:
Jonas R. Sloat, born 10 Mar 1784 at NY. He married Charity Soper about 1808 in New York.
 

We would like to have more information on the Sturdevant and Sloote/Sloat families.
